Panhandle String Band News ... May 06
We just got back from performing a couple sets at the Gamble Rogers Festival over in St. Augustine. There is a wonderful legacy that Gamble left behind in that historic city and we were honored to have been invited to perform our instrumental music there.
Next, the one and only, Florida Folk Festival (FFF), lies just around the corner and we are excited about being part of their Friday evening “rising talent” showcase. The impending fest will be a busy one due to the members of the PSB appearing in nearly twenty sets throughout the weekend in various bands, side projects, and workshops.
By the way, we have received a copy of the Panhandle String Band “ethnography.” It is very long, diligently detailed, and highly accurate. All of us were most impressed and we do have plans of posting all thirty three pages.
By now the bad news is spreading; Larry Rice past away on May 13, 2006. He was a great friend, one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet, and one fantastic mandolin picker. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Larry, his wife and his family. Our performance at Suwannee Spring fest with Larry was his last. This news has certainly given all of us something to think about. His music and spirit will live on for ever.
